The Friendship Element

Hi, Thanks for coming back here. This story was written by @Haychroxx and I loved it.It reminds me of humid days with Enid Blyton and my imagination.

Brice was bored! So bored that it actually hurt. He was tired of all his toys, his PS 3,his scooter, his computer, his ipad, the television, everything! He yawned; it was so quiet in the big house. He knew his sister Tami was probably in her room on the phone with one of her annoying friends; he thought of going to her room to irritate her just a bit, there was no love lost between them… But that didn’t sound so hot either! Oh what a life *sigh* he looked out his window, it had rained earlier and the interlocked floor was damp, the trees looked greener and the air smelt fresh.
As well as the trees, he looked out a bit further and he could see the boy ,kicking what looked like an old can and he actually looked happy playing his imaginary football, scoring and cheering all by himself. Brice wished that was him, having such fun instead of being cooped up in this big boring house another *sigh* he hated it here,he was lonely, he missed his friends. Since they moved here it was just him,his sister, mum and dad, plus Archie the cook and twice a week the cleaning lady came around. Mum and dad were hardly ever around.
He was so bored he could cry, he went downstairs to get a snack,he found some cheesecake his favourite, he cut some, sat on the stool and ate in silence. Finished he cleared the plate, went back up to his room but still felt as empty as he did before he ate the cheesecake, he needed to explore, he needed to leave this house else he’d go crazy.
He knew he couldn’t go out the front though, because Stan the guard wouldn’t let him without an adult so the back of the house would have to do. He put on his jacket just incase it was nippy, and went out through the kitchen door, the wind had blown some leaves of the huge sycamore and mango trees that were around the house, father said the trees made him feel closer to nature… ‘Crunch crunch , as he stepped on broken twigs, ‘Stan would have a lot of sweeping to do he thought to himself’.
Brice looked around and was thinking about what to do first when it caught his eye, it couldn’t be, or could it? He walked closer to investigate as his heart beat faster in his chest with excitement. He remembered Mother mentioning something about the barbed part of the fence just beyond the garden needing some repairs that’s what he was looking at right now and his mind was racing with thoughts. He could finally explore, as in properly and not just around his big house. He went closer and saw the tangled bits of iron used to cover the hole, he bent towards it and pulled,it came off! Wow! Brice felt faint, his hands were sweaty this was it,he could just fit through the hole and he would be free… He would have to crawl through though but thankfully he was wearing shorts so he wasn’t worried about his clothes getting dirty, just his hands ‎and knees that he could wash later on.
He wriggled through the opening pretty well and he was on the other side, his happiness knew no bounds! He felt free,he looked around at the grass and random plants Around,‎the rain made it all greener and he felt like the air on this other side of the fence smelt different from his house, cleaner, fresher… The smell of freedom perhaps? He laughed! Noticed a path ‎and  started to walk where the path led. He was careful not to stray too far as he wanted to go home that same way. He heard the sound of plastic on gravel,n as he walked towards it the sound became clearer, was it? No it couldn’t be, but as he rounded a bend, he came into full view of ‘the boy’ as he kicked the plastic can and celebrated in mock jubilation when he scored.
At that moment the boy took a hard shot ‎and the can landed right in front of him. ‘Hi, the boy said,‎you want †o play?’ Brice just stared, he was so shocked cos he hadn’t even realised that the boy had seen him and now here he was asking him to play…
‘Ummmmm,I said hi,you want to play’? He asked Brice again. ‘Are you deaf’? The Boy looked worried and was about stretching his hand to tap Brice when he caught his voice
‘Ye.. Yea… yeah I’ll like to play’ but that’s not a real football though…
‘Well, duh! Of cos its not a REAL football the boy replied,I don’t have one so I play with this, problem?’
‘Ummmm,no, of cos not Brice replied, let’s play!’
And play they did,the boy wasn’t that bad and Brice loved soccer so it was really fun, Brice lost track of the time and before he knew it, the sun was setting, he panicked, said goodbye and dashed off towards the path home.
He ran all the way home, squeezed past the hole, covered it up and went through the back keeping away from Archie who was busy in the kitchen, ran straight into his room and ran into the bathroom. He was done cleaning up and in his pyjamas with a book by the time Mother knocked on his door.
‘Wow, you’re in bed early, you feeling well honey?’
‘Yes Mother I’m fine, how was your day?’
‘My day was fine, how was yours?’
‘Oh it was the same old, lessons, tv,played around the house, just that he shrugged. Just took a bath cos I was a bit sweaty from all the running so…’
‘Ok dear I’m glad you’re ok, father’s in his room and dinner will be ready soon’.
‘Ok Mother’
She went out and he let out a deep breath! That was close he thought, too close. He had to be careful next time though he would wear his watch next time,he didn’t know how or why he left it today. His mind went back to the boy and their plastic football,he smiled at the thought, it had been a long time since he had such fun and he knew he couldn’t wait to do it again…
‘Brice! Dinner! Mother called out!’
He smiled at the thought of his new secret.
‘Coming’!
And he ran downstairs…
It had been raining since he woke up,all through his lessons, his tutor just droned on and on and on,and Brice yawned for the umpteenth time that morning, or was it afternoon? He didn’t know coz the rain made the sky so cloudy it could even be night for all he knew cos it felt like Mr Julian had been talking the whole day. He wasn’t concentrating cos he kept thinking about the hole in the fence and ‘the boy’…
Lesson over (finally)! And it was still raining he felt like crying…  What to do, what to do he thought,he had no choice and found himself in front of Tami’s door, he knocked, she screamed ‘get lost toad’! But he went in anyway. ‘Hey Sis’,he called moving towards a chair in the middle of the room while she held her phone mid-listen glaring at him. ‘What do you want’?
‘Just a chat with my favourite Sis is all’ he said smiling at her.
‘I’ll have to call you back’ she said into the phone,’its my toad of a brother being a pest as usual’ dropped the call, and faced him with her  hands folded across her chest.
‘Yes? How may I be of help to you oh dear brother’? She asked her eyes could have been shooting daggers!
‘I was just a little lonely and decided to come chat with my darling sister’ he said as he flashed his best smile. Something shiny caught his eye on her table and he walked towards it as she growled ‘don’t touch anything in my room ok’
He sat back down as he watched her brush her hair, and then put on lip gloss. Yuck! He wondered why girls liked that gooey stuff anyways, he just didn’t get it…
‘So,what’s up with you sis’? He asked, she laughed so hard she nearly fell off her stool. ‘Are you for real? You actually want to have a conversation with me? You must be bored out of your mind’ she concluded!
‘Well brother, nothing’s up as you can see and I WAS in the middle of something important before you barged in here uninvited, so…’
He sighed, there was just no winning with Tami! He looked at the pictures of the boy bands on her wall, there was a new one he just noticed was it ‘one direction’ or ‘no direction’? He couldn’t quite make out cos Tami was glaring at him again and of cos he couldn’t go near it either… Sigh
‘Ok Tami,thanks for nothing’!
‘Yeah yeah yeah! Bye turd, come back another time ok’.

The sun was streaming through his window as he opened, his eyes this morning oh happy day he thought with a smile. It had been raining none stop for days now and he had actually lost count of the days as they had flown past and he was amazed he hadn’t died of boredom! He was going out through the hole today no matter what happened. He didn’t know how the path would be or if he’d see ‘the boy’ it was strange but he actually had missed him, even if they just had that one encounter. Hmmmmm, what to wear?
He breezed through his lessons and the teacher couldn’t leave fast enough, before he dashed of,carefully keeping himself hidden so as not to catch Stan’s attention. The hole was still there thank God! He got on his knees and crawled out, haha! Freedom at last! He wondered if he should walk towards where he met the boy or the other way, hmmmm, decisions decisions… He decided to walk towards the boy,who knows… The path was really muddy and he had to jump across and dodge some puddles, finally he turned the corner and no boy… He was distraught,he felt like he had lost a good friend. At that moment he heard someone say
‘That’s a nice jersey you got on there rich boy’
He turned and said ‘my name’s Brice not rich boy’!
‘What’?
‘I said my name’s Brice’
‘Oh ok that’s cool’
‘Haven’t seen you in a bit, thought you got bored with me and my plastic can’ and he laughed.
‘It rained for days! I didn’t think it was safe to be out’
‘Awwwwwww, rich boy scared of a little rain’ he said in a taunting voice and laughed again longer this time! Brice stood stone faced looking at him.
‘Are you done?’ He asked him
‘Ok ok, I was just kidding ‘.
‘So what’s on? You up for a real game this time?’
Brice looked around there were tiny puddles about and he wondered how they were going to manage it,but then he shrugged away his worries and said
‘Yeah’ sure!
And from behind a tree the boy produced a ball, the made goal posts out of stones and played away! It was a blast, and by the time Brice caught his breath he was looking so filthy! Again, he had to leave ‎and he made this known to the boy who exclaimed
‘Awwww, shucks! Ok then see ya! As he sped off kicking the ball in the opposite direction towards the fading sun… ‘Hey,I don’t even know your name’ but ‘the boy’ was gone!
Brice trudged down the path home,he had some scratches on his knees and elbow where he fell but it wasn’t so bad ‎and  neither was it painful.  He was happy,he went through the hole and through the back door as usual. Archie caught him just in time and eyed his clothes… ‘Just a little game of soccer Arch’ as he laughed nervously and walked away quickly to avoid Archie’s question’s. He wished he could do his laundry himself so he wouldn’t have to answer questions from Hannah the cleaning lady as she always praised him on being so neat! Oh well he shrugged, things change… He had a bath,he changed and when he heard the call,he went down for dinner…
The next couple of days were a rush, he went through the hole everyday and he always met ‘the boy’ they played soccer, they climbed trees while eating fruits off them, they explored, the boy taught him how to pick snails as the stuck on the leaves ‎and  then they’d break, wash them, make a fire and roast them to eat (that part wasn’t fun for him though) snails were slimy, but the
Boy seemed to enjoy it so he had to pretend…
They explored, and then they explored some more. The boy seemed to know everywhere and everything, he told the boy about Mother and Father, Tami, her endless calls and her rudeness, Archie and how he was always taking an extra helping of food †o eat later in the kitchen when Mother had gone to bed ‎and  he went down †o get his milk… He told the boy everything, but the boy never seemed to have anything to tell him about anyone one,he just told him once when he asked about his dad
‘He helps out with some construction when he’s needed’.
‘ Your Mother?’ He shrugs,
‘brother?’ Another shrug
‘Sister?’ Yet another shrug.
Its just my pops and I basically, whenever he comes home. Common check this out! And that was the end of that…
He gave the boy a few of his things he knew Mother wouldn’t miss,a watch here, a shirt there, jeans, sneakers, etc. taught him how to play PS 3 as well as his PSP,snuck him into the house once …
It was all so exciting and this summer was his best as far as he could remember… The week before he had gone to see his new school! He had written the tests and he knew he was going to be accepted, that made him sad because one, it signalled the end of his amazing summer, and even worse,it was boarding school…
How was he going to cope? He was really going to miss his friend, his friend, that sounded good but it made him feel sadder because he wished ‘the boy’ would also be in school with him and then they could be bestfriends here and also at school, and who knew maybe forever! He had told the boy about the tests and his going off to boarding school but all he had said was ‘Oh shucks! Too bad ain’t it?’ And he had run off calling out to him to catch up…
He had felt bad, that day and he had really wanted to talk to some one but Tami had screamed at him for even thinking of making friends with a ‘commoner’ as she put it while squishing her nose like she could smell something bad,and then threatened to tell Mother and Father before sending him out of her room *sigh*… He just couldn’t catch a break with her and all through dinner he kept waiting for her to tell but she didn’t,maybe she forgot? He wasn’t sure but he was mighty relieved! Mother had been buying stuff he’d need for school and was always trying to sell him off on how great the idea was plus he could always talk to his big sister if he had any issues, bleh! Talk to Tami indeed! The only things Tami cared about were herself, her stupid friends she was always talking to on the phone, her boy bands and whatever silly thing that caught her fancy. *sigh* he missed thE boy,it was a small holiday and they went to see Grandma Jules, she was his favourite Grandma and he had really missed her. He waited for when she was alone before creeping into her room and telling her about the boy and his best summer ever, she listened to him and didn’t interrupt him even once. But she was very surprised he still didn’t know ‘the boy’s’ name
‘Well he won’t tell me Grandma’ he said,
‘Says ‘the boy’ suits him just fine’!
’Well I think you’ve got yourself an exciting friend there, just be careful, and you’ll be off to school in no time anyway so…’ She shrugged, just be careful my darling Grandma said and gave him a kiss goodnight!
It was two days before he would leave for school, and Brice didn’t feel so good,he felt really sad,he was going to miss his friend. It had been raining heavily for days now and he just saw the boy briefly, they’‎d talk, play a little and he’d have to run back, but he wanted to see him today because he had packed some stuff he wanted him to have,he looked out the window and the rain had reduced †o a drizzle, hopefully it would stop totally… Two hours later it did stop and he gently tip toed out of the house but was worried the bag might be too big to pass through the hole,he passed through but struggled with the bag a bit but he was on the other side! The path was extra muddy and very slippery,he was glad he wore his studs as they gripped the earth and he could walk without slipping…
The boy was walking towards him just as he was rounding the corner.
‘Hiya Pal,what’s up? Thought the rain was gonna keep you,its pretty late and this is the time you normally leave’.
‘Hey,yeah well I wanted to give you these’ he handed the bag over to him.
‘Wow! This is quite a lot dude! Ummmmm, gee thanks’.
‘It’s just a couple of things I thought you might want seeing that we won’t be seeing each other again for a long time’ Brice said.
‘Ummmm, yeah, bummer right?’ The boy replied. Oh well! ‘Wanna see something cool?’
‘Maybe not today’ Brice said, I have to head back’…
‘Yeah well ok tomorrow then, even if it rains, just try to come out early ok?’
‘Ok, Brice said ‘well bye then, see you tomorrow’.
‘Yeah, see ya tomorrow dude’,the boy said with a smile and picked up the bag ‘and thanks again for this’.
‘You’re welcome’.
Brice was walking down the path, thinking about the special thing they were going to do tomorrow and praying it didn’t rain when he heard his name
‘Yo Brice!’
‘Its Allan’
He screamed back,
‘What’?
The boy screamed ‘I said its Allan, my name’s Allan’!
And he ran off!
‘Allan,’ Brice repeated, ‘Allan’ so that was the boy’s name,he never would have guessed but why tell him now? Today of all days? Oh well,it felt good to know after all these weeks and funny too,he had gotten used to calling him ‘the boy’… He laughed then,as he thought about the weirdness of it all, it was so funny that he laughed all the way home.
Allan really like Brice, and he was really going to miss him, a lot. He had never been this close to anyone and it was just him and his dad since his mum died and his sisters aLl ran away, this had actually been the best time of his life as far as he Could remember and he knew Brice thought he was weird but he was still his friend. His friend, that sounded really good,he wondered what he was going to do with himself when Brice went to school, he hated school, and that was because the kids there always hated him and made fun of him. He wished he could attend a fancy school like Brice’s but fat chance! He opened the door to the one room shack he stayed with his dad and the darkness hit him he felt for the table and found the tiny candle remaining and lit it,he hoped his Dad would remember to buy candles on his way back that’s if he was going to come back and if he had any money. He sighed… Took the bag and checked what it was that Brice had put it there and he was shocked, there were clothes, two pairs of shoes, his PSP (wow), a watch, some books and a hand band that had on it, ‘best buds forever’ he quickly put it on and he looked at everything and he started to cry, no one had been this nice to him for as long as he could remember… His Dad did not come home that night.
It rained that night, and the next ‎‎morning ,Brice had never prayed so much in his life, today was the last day he’d spend with the bo… No Allan, before he went to boarding school. Allan,it felt strange putting a name to the face after all this time and he wondered if he’d get used to it, he chuckled.
Mother had asked him to do some chores around the house, especially his room,so he did that to pass time. When he was done, it was drizzling still but he remembered what Allan said and he might actually be waiting for him… He got ready, grabbed a bite to eat and made a sandwich for Allan. He took his umbrella and again tiptoed out of the house. The rain wasn’t so bad,it was just coming down in trickles but he took his umbrella anyways,he looked around, no Stan, he squeezed past the hole and started down the path.
As he had thought,Allan was there waiting, grinning from ear to ear, and wait he was wearing the ‘best buds forever’ band, so was he. He smiled back at him and felt really happy then.
‘Heya pal! Ready to see something amazing?’ Allan asked.
‘Yeah sure,why not?’
And they started down the other way, they hadn’t gone this way before and Brice was kinda worried because it was a bit far from the house ,but he didn’t want to be a spoil sport and Allan seemed really excited. They walked and walked and finally he could hear sounds of splashing water, it was a waterfall that had a small foot bridge where you could walk to the other side. It was a beautiful sight and he watched as the water fell then gushed forth so powerfully… He was a little scared too.
‘Common then’ Allan said ‘I want you to see it from the bridge’
Brice was scared and he said so
‘Ummmmm, the bridge doesn’t look that safe to me, are you sure’?
‘Its fine! Stop being a sissy, common!’
So they walked towards the bridge,up a small hill and were on the bridge’
‘See,its not that bad is it?’ Allan asked
And Brice had to agree. They stood for a while and watched the water fall, and for that moment Brice really felt happy. Allan also felt really happy he could share this experience with his friend, his best bud… It was starting to drizzle again and Brice thought it was time to go,they had nearly gotten to the end of the bridge when Brice thought he heard Allan say something, turned back but missed his step and fell into the water!
‘NO’! Allan screamed Briceeeeeeeeeee
Brice’s last thought as he crashed into the water was how the past weeks had been the best…
And Allan’s last thought as he dived into the water wAs how he had to save his best bud…
There was no Brice for dinner, mother was frantic and everyone searched the whole house , calling out, father found the hole, went around the house and saw the foot prints up to the corner and that was it! Stan knew nothing…
Mother was shattered,
Tami was distraught,he was her younger brother no matter what…
Allan’s father had come home the night before and no trace of Allan, he assumed one of his sisters had come to get him,or he had gotten tired and had also run away, he hoped life would be kind to him…

UNCAGED

Tightness like a clamped visor
the spiritless feeling  when these hands circle my throat
the illness that left me lying face-up
confronting my weakness, hating my strength
or these are just my ramblings
after that dose of Actifed.

I meant to open my mouth
as I wanted those sounds to come out
sweet in sour, screeching high, tastefully low.
the freeness to explore why my smile should go unchecked
the openness to drive down the bumpy road to my home with a gladdened heart
the unchecked beckon at the harmony behind music that will not let me go
the release of truth to flood my heart and ride open arms of trustful acceptance to a once betraying friend

unleash of my love that it should wash over every individual i touch
so that music would make me cry
just the way love would
and beauty for me, would lie in bold colors
unrestrained waves that break against the earth's shore
and me, at this end
worshipping the cold that would kill me....>>>

SHE IS

I might just be standing there
oblivious to her changing mood
but she catches me unawares
and my skin can hardly remember what it was feeling before her

she creeps up on me
making my skin go tight as she teases
making me shudder with prickly touches
she caresses my back, causes my eyes to widen

that's just before she releases her wrath upon my negligent mind
opening her mouth, and exhausting herself of all tension
pellets of heavy drops of tears fall upon my sensitized skin
so fast, i can hardly take cover
so cold, she decides my reaction
yet so welcoming that there's an almost orgasmic sigh falling from my lips

she's my blanket...for in her, i feel hugged
she's my shield...for in her, i am lost
she is the Rains!

I AM

Close your eyes...okay, maybe you shouldn't close your eyes
because you need to look within yourself...and find me!
for...I am, your name< your body and your heart
I am  that one whom you speak about
without distaste upon your lips
I am that one whose life you're living regardless of the sins you're commiting
I am here, whom you look at with a spark in your eye
I am here, the one whom you think of with a headache coming forth

I am the bubbling essence of your instability
I am the core restlessness of your vibrations
I am the persuasive state of your heart's decisions
I am your phobia, gripping your chest with inane fears, wetting your palms with nervousness, the film of sweat on your upper lip
I am your stubbornness, your hardheaded, petulant, resolutions.
I am your waywardness, your misinterpreted pervasiveness, the bane of all your misunderstandings...

I am your spectacular visionary, creating thoughts yet persecuting your actions
I am your sanctimonous pride, filling you with arrogant sureness, when in fact you live in the wrong!

I am relentless, i lack a leash, i am your fervor, your combustive boastiness, and your frail spirit.
I am...exactly who you are!!

WORDS

you take each letter, make it your own
you take each sound, the merged mouthiness that is only yours
you take each word, make it a sentence
forgetting almost immediately where it had sprung from
it becomes flawless, it becomes natural

what you'd say, how you'd say it...
and if i closed my eyes,
and listen to the sounds
the beauty of your words would flood me
and provoke my quickening fantasy
they would wash over me in waves

I then would realize that i gave your words  a thought
and then I would know that your words
can do nothing to please me!!

it's called 'THE L WORD'

What is it about the little things
that makes Love such a big deal?
i'm not speaking about such agape
i speak of the gaping, exascibating beauty of deeply intense feelings
nervousness, sweaty palms,  kisses on the forehead
The need to spend wakeful moments with YOU
yet lonely women are all i see
and when they go to bed alone,
they are comforted by music, comforted by a warm duvet

sometimes, i think that is how i might have end up
with memories, with left over warmth, and with such gaping sadness
one that could never match
the Love that i had initially felt
the way i had heard you say
"a ghra"
is the way i would hear you say
"au revoir" !!
